In Support of School Lunch Systems

February 14th, 2011 | Posted in: Parents, School Nutrition

Faced with an epidemic of childhood obesity, across the nation school breakfast and lunch programs are doing what they can to provide healthier choices for our children.

We’ve found a great Facebook page that celebrates what is right with school nutrition programs — School Meals That Rock. It offers great ideas for professionals in the field of school nutrition, advice for parents and gives a much-deserved pat on the back to those schools that are working hard to provide children with healthy meal options.

School Meals That Rock encourages schools to post their Tray of the Day — photos that illustrate healthy options for their students. To do so, simply email your photos to: [email protected]. This February and March the theme is: Eat Right with Color, to coincide with Heart Month (February) and National Nutrition Month (March).

We encourage all you hard-working school food service professionals to send in your photos. Parents, you can do your part to — if you like what you see on your child’s lunch tray, send in the photos and give your schools the credit they deserve.
